If you eat any food at all, you are almost certainly already digesting plant proteins, since protein is found in almost every single food – including bread, rice and potatoes. Some people do find beans a little harder to digest than other sources of protein, but we don’t know of anyone who struggles to digest all plant proteins.
Because it is found in so many foods, it is easy to get enough protein as a vegan, even if you do need to avoid one source. Try peas, legumes, nuts, seeds, tofu and other soy products, tempeh and seitan (a low-fat, high protein meaty product made from wheat gluten). Each contains a good amount of protein.
