If you have met unhealthy vegans, it’s because they’re doing it all wrong!
Some vegans do eat a bad diet but that is not the fault of veganism. They were probably eating a bad diet before they went vegan and have stuck with old bad habits.
It is perfectly possible to get every nutrient you need on a vegan diet, and the evidence of just how healthy it is lies in the vast numbers of studies that have shown that vegans suffer less from heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes and some kinds of cancers.1 Vegans also tend to live longer,2 so it is clear that a well-balanced vegan diet is a great way to protect your health.
Besides, you do know of plenty of healthy vegans (even if you have not met them in person). Think about people like Lewis Hamilton, Venus Williams, Kendrick Farris, Dotsie Bausch, Griff Whalen, Derrick Morgan, Scott Jurek, Nate Diaz, David Haye and Morgan Mitchell. All these elite athletes are vegan and they look pretty healthy to us.
